The most direct route from Dublin follows the M4 west to Mullingar, then N4 through Longford before joining the N17 north through Knock, with the R297 bringing you straight into town - about 220 kilometres in two and a half hours. From Galway, take the shorter N17 route north, while Belfast visitors typically use the A4/N16 through Sligo town.
