Ellon lies 30 kilometers north of Aberdeen on the A90, serving as Aberdeenshire's gateway to the rural northeast. The A948 heads west to Oldmeldrum whilst local roads connect coastal villages. Aberdeen Airport is 45 minutes south. The town centers around 13th-century castle ruins overlooking the River Ythan, with their impressive curtain wall still dominating the landscape.
