Elkstone perches in the Cotswold Hills near Cirencester, reached via the A417 and winding stone-walled lanes typical of the area. Most visitors approach from Cirencester, 8km southeast, whilst locals often head to Cheltenham, 15km northeast through the countryside. The village boasts St. John the Evangelist Church, whose 12th-century Norman tympanum depicting Christ in Majesty ranks amongst England's finest medieval stone carvings.
