Elham sits in a sheltered Kent valley between Canterbury and Folkestone, surrounded by chalk downs that moderate the coastal climate. The A260 from Canterbury offers the most direct 15-kilometre approach, whilst the B2065 connects north from Folkestone via Lyminge. Long-distance visitors typically use M20 Junction 11, following local roads through the downs. The medieval church houses a rare 13th-century wooden knight's effigy.
