Elephant & Castle is South London's major road junction where the A3, A201 and A23 converge. Most drivers approach via the A3 from Westminster or the A23 from Croydon and Streatham. The busy roundabout system connects central London to southern suburbs and the coast. The area's name comes from an old pub that displayed a carved elephant carrying a castle above its door.
