Durness
Scotland
Scotland
Durness perches at mainland Scotland's northwestern tip, where limestone cliffs plunge into the Atlantic. The A838 from Lairg (95km) offers the main approach, whilst the coastal A99 from Thurso (67km) provides equally spectacular Highland scenery through single-track sections. The village serves as base camp for Cape Wrath, Britain's most remote mainland point, and boasts Smoo Cave—a colossal limestone cavern extending 200 feet into the cliff face.
