Drax is a North Yorkshire village dominated by one of Europe's largest power stations, whose cooling towers rise above the flat Ouse valley farmland. The A645 provides the main access route, connecting to the M62 via the A614 from the south, whilst the A19 links north to Selby and York. The power station burns millions of tonnes of imported wood pellets, delivered by an endless procession of freight trains.
