Dounby lies at the heart of Mainland Orkney, easily reached via the A965 from either Stromness ferry terminal (15km) or Kirkwall (20km). The village serves as a junction for local routes connecting the western parishes, with the A986 heading north towards the coast. Roughly 10 fast EV chargers serve the area. The annual Dounby Show each August remains one of Orkney's most important agricultural gatherings, celebrating island farming traditions with prize livestock and famous local oatcakes.
