Debden is a small Essex village about 40 miles northeast of London, reached via the M11 and B1383. Popular with weekend visitors escaping the capital, it sits in rolling countryside near the Hertfordshire border. The 13th-century St Mary and All Saints church houses exceptional medieval wall paintings, including a rare surviving depiction of St Edmund's martyrdom.
