Deaf Hill lies in County Durham's former coalfield, about 15 kilometres southeast of Durham city. Access is via the A181 from Durham or A19 connections for longer journeys. The village sits among typical northeast England countryside of gentle hills and scattered former mining communities like Trimdon and Kelloe.
