Culgower perches on Sutherland's remote north coast, accessible via the A99 coastal road from Helmsdale, about 7km south. Most visitors arrive on the A9 from Inverness, roughly 150km away, whilst locals make short hops between coastal villages. The settlement overlooks Culgower Bay, where an old stone fishing pier still juts into the North Sea.
