Crapstone lies on Dartmoor's western fringe, reached via the A386 between Plymouth and Tavistock. Most visitors drive up from Plymouth, about 15km southeast, whilst locals use quieter lanes to Buckland Monachorum and Milton Combe. The village enjoys typical moorland weather with frequent mists in winter. St. Raphael's church houses a remarkable 15th-century rood screen with carved saints that escaped Reformation destruction.
