Craigmillar lies in southeast Edinburgh, 4 kilometres from the city centre between residential areas and the Pentland Hills. The A7 provides the main access from central Edinburgh, whilst the nearby A720 bypass connects to Glasgow via the M8 and England via the A1. Edinburgh Airport is 15 kilometres west. The area boasts the remarkably preserved Craigmillar Castle, a 14th-century fortress where Mary Queen of Scots once sheltered.
