Craghead is a former County Durham mining village reached via the A693 from Newcastle (8 miles via A1(M) Junction 63) or from Durham city. Local routes connect to Stanley, Grange Villa and South Moor within a few miles. Electric vehicle drivers have access to over 300 public fast chargers across the wider area. The preserved Pithead Baths building, now housing an auto parts business, remains a striking reminder of the village's coal mining heritage.
