Cowlairs occupies elevated ground in Glasgow's northern suburbs, easily reached via the A803 Springburn Road from the M8 or the nearby M80. This former railway district sits between Springburn and Possil Park, with good links to Glasgow Airport 15 kilometres southwest and central Glasgow just 3 kilometres south. The area was once home to the massive Cowlairs Railway Works, where Caledonian Railway locomotives were built for over a century.
