Coves lies along the Firth of Clyde in Inverclyde, reached via the A8 coastal road from Glasgow or Greenock. The area serves as a residential base for Glasgow commuters, with regular local traffic between the string of neighbouring coastal towns. The nearby Gourock Outdoor Pool, a heated outdoor facility dating from 1909, remains one of Scotland's few surviving waterfront lidos.
