Courance lies just off the A74(M) at Junction 17, making it a convenient stop on the main Glasgow-to-England route. Local roads connect easily to Dumfries via the A709 and A76, whilst the A701 from Edinburgh offers a particularly scenic approach through the Lowther Hills. The town's Victorian railway viaduct creates a striking stone archway over the main street.
