Cong sits where Mayo and Galway meet near Lough Corrib, positioned between Ireland's two largest lakes connected by underground rivers that surface in the village's famous caves. The R345 provides main access, with Galway city about 45 kilometers south via the N84, while Westport lies roughly 50 kilometers northwest through Castlebar. The village became internationally famous as the filming location for John Ford's "The Quiet Man" in 1952, and you can still visit the white cottage that served as John Wayne's character's home, now a museum dedicated to the film.
