Collooney

Ireland

Ireland

Collooney sits on the N4, 12 kilometers south of Sligo city, where the N17 branches off toward Galway, making it a proper junction for getting around the northwest. Most folk come up from Dublin on the N4, about two and a half hours' drive, while locals use it for the daily run into Sligo. The town connects grand to Ballymote and Boyle on the regional roads. Sligo Airport is 15 kilometers away through Strandhill. The name comes from "Cúil Mhuine," meaning corner of the thicket, and the old railway station from 1862 still stands as a community center with its original Victorian ironwork intact.
