Cloddach lies amid Moray's farming country, 6km southwest of Elgin off the A96 trunk road. Access is via the B9010 and local roads through neighbouring Pittendreich, with most journeys being short hops between rural communities. The area benefits from Scotland's driest climate in the Cairngorms' rain shadow. About 20 fast EV chargers operate around Elgin for those touring the region. The name derives from Gaelic "clach dubh" (black stone), after the dark granite boulders left by glaciers across local fields.
