Cleat lies on South Ronaldsay in Orkney, reached via the A961 and the remarkable Churchill Barriers that link the southern islands. These wartime causeways provide the only road access from mainland Scotland, making for a memorable drive across Scapa Flow. About 6 fast chargers serve the area for electric vehicles. The barriers themselves were built by Italian POWs during WWII, creating what locals call "the road that shouldn't exist."
