Chingford marks the spot where London meets Epping Forest, offering easy access to ancient woodland from the capital's edge. The A104 runs straight through from central London to the M25, whilst the A406 North Circular provides the main western approach. The town's Tudor hunting lodge, built for Henry VIII in 1543, still stands on stilts in the forest as a working museum.
