Castledawson lies on the A6 between Belfast and Londonderry, about 50km from either city. This Mid Ulster village serves as a handy stopping point for cross-country journeys and connects easily to Magherafelt (4km) and the Sperrins beyond. The surrounding Bann valley farmland reflects the area's agricultural heritage, whilst the village name recalls the Dawson family's 17th-century plantation castle, whose earthwork remains can still be spotted near the centre.
