Castlebay is Barra's main village, reached by ferry from Oban or flights to the famous beach runway airport 8km north. The circular A888 connects all island settlements within this 23-square-kilometre Hebridean outpost. Kisimul Castle sits on its own rocky island in the harbour, accessible only by boat at high tide.
