Castle Dene lies in County Durham, just off the A167 near Chester-le-Street. This former mining community sits amongst the rolling Durham countryside, easily reached via the A1(M) from Newcastle or longer journeys north and south. Local routes include the A693 from Sunderland and connections to nearby Great Lumley and Fencehouses. The area has over 350 EV charging points nearby. The village name recalls a medieval castle whose earthwork remains still mark the old River Wear valley fortification site.
