Carrick-on-Suir

united kingdom

united kingdom

Carrick-on-Suir sits where the River Suir meets the Comeragh Mountains in Tipperary, a market town of 5,900 straddling the Waterford border. The N24 runs straight through, linking Limerick and Waterford, with Clonmel just 21km away and Cork about two hours down the road. You'll find decent charging points for electric cars and a railway station on the Limerick Junction-Waterford line. The town claims cycling legend Sean Kelly as its own, and the Suir Blueway follows the river for cyclists and walkers. The real draw is Ormond Castle, a Tudor manor built in the 1560s by the Earl of Ormond hoping to impress Queen Elizabeth I, though she never bothered to visit.
