Callanish, on Lewis's west coast, draws visitors to its ancient stone circle that's older than Stonehenge. Reach it via the A858 from Stornoway (20km east), passing through typical Hebridean moorland. The stones form a cross pattern with 13 standing megaliths, some over 4 metres tall, arranged to align with an 18.6-year lunar cycle.
