Cairns forms part of South Lanarkshire's urban belt along the Clyde Valley, easily reached via the M74 from Glasgow city centre or Hamilton. The A724 provides the main local connection through Cambuslang, whilst over 350 EV charging points serve the wider area. The district sits near Bothwell Bridge, site of the famous 1679 Covenanter battle.
