Burnhope lies in County Durham's countryside, about 10 miles southwest of Newcastle. The A691 provides main access via Lanchester, whilst the A692 through Stanley offers an alternative route from Tyneside. Local roads connect to Deanery View, Maiden Law and other nearby villages, with the A1(M) 15 miles east for longer journeys. The village sits beneath Burnhope Seat, County Durham's highest peak at 747 metres.
