Brancepeth is a County Durham village 6 miles southwest of Durham city, reached via the A690 in about 10 minutes. The 14th-century castle, rebuilt in Victorian times, dominates the village centre. Local routes connect to former mining villages like Brandon and Willington, whilst the A1(M) lies 15 miles east through Durham. The castle's imposing towers are visible from the main road and remain privately owned.
