Bothel is a small Cumbrian village reached via the A595 from either Carlisle (20 miles) or Cockermouth (12 miles). The surrounding countryside supports traditional farming with stone-built properties typical of the region. St. Michael's Church houses remarkable 12th-century wall paintings uncovered during 1980s restoration work.
