Bothal is a Northumberland village reached via the A196 from the A1, sitting between Morpeth and the coast near Ashington. The A1 provides the main north-south link, whilst local roads connect to Pegswood and surrounding villages. Newcastle International Airport is 30 kilometres southwest. The remarkable 14th-century Bothal Castle gatehouse stands beside the River Wansbeck, its medieval walls rising straight from the water.
