Blowinghouse forms part of Cornwall's historic mining belt, nestled between Redruth and Pool in the Camborne-Pool-Redruth conurbation. Access is via the A3047 and B3297 from the A30, with over 60 EV charging points throughout the area. The name derives from the tin smelting "blowing houses" that once used bellows-powered furnaces to process ore from local mines.
