Blackdown perches on Dartmoor's western edge, a small Devon village between granite moorland and the Tamar Valley. The A386 from Tavistock provides the main access, with the B3357 offering a scenic alternative through Lydford. From Plymouth it's about 20km via the A386, whilst longer journeys typically route through Okehampton on the A30. The distinctive volcanic plug of Brent Tor, crowned by its medieval church, dominates the skyline just to the south.
