Bieldside lies in Aberdeen's well-heeled western suburbs along the A93 Deeside road, about 8km from the city centre. The area sits on elevated ground above the River Dee with views toward the Grampians. Most visitors arrive via the A93 from Aberdeen or use it to continue west to Royal Deeside attractions. The name derives from the Scots word "bield," meaning shelter.
