Belah forms part of Carlisle's northern suburbs, three kilometres from the city centre near Hadrian's Wall country. The A689 connects to the M74 for Scotland or A69 for Newcastle, whilst local routes serve nearby Stanwix and Etterby. Roman enthusiasts can visit the Castlesteads fort bath house remains just northeast of the village.
