Barna (Bearna)
Ireland
Ireland
Barna sits just eight kilometres west of Galway city along the R336 coast road, making it a handy seaside spot on Galway Bay. The village serves as a gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way, with easy connections to Spiddal further west or back into Galway through Salthill. You can reach it in about fifteen minutes from the city centre, with the M6 bringing you to Galway from Dublin in two and a half hours. The name "Bearna" means "gap," referring to the natural break in the hills where the village sits between the uplands and the bay.
