Ballymichael lies on Arran's west coast between Shiskine and Blackwaterfoot, reached via the A841 from Brodick ferry terminal. The 15-kilometre coastal route offers stunning views across Kilbrannan Sound to Kintyre, whilst the String Road provides a more dramatic mountain crossing. About 7 EV charging points serve the area for those bringing electric cars on the CalMac ferry. The village name derives from "Baile Mhicheil" - Michael's town - referencing an ancient chapel to Saint Michael that once stood nearby.
