Ballyhack sits where the River Suir widens into Waterford Harbour, a grand spot for watching the ancient chain ferry chug back and forth to Passage East. The village straddles the R733, handy for connections to New Ross and the N25, with Waterford city 25km east and Wexford town 35km northwest. Most folk arrive via the N25, though the ferry crossing makes a lovely shortcut between the counties. The 15th-century Ballyhack Castle, built by the Knights Hospitaller, still keeps watch over the crossing after 500 years.
