Balelone perches on North Uist's Atlantic coast, reached via the A865 from Lochmaddy ferry terminal. The machair grasslands here support traditional crofting alongside seabird colonies, whilst the Gulf Stream moderates what could otherwise be harsh island weather. About one EV charging point serves the area, though most visitors stick to conventional vehicles for the ferry crossing from Skye. The village cemetery displays centuries-old Gaelic inscriptions alongside English ones.
