Athea
Ireland
Ireland
Athea is a small market town in west County Limerick, 30 kilometers southwest of Newcastle West and 45 kilometers from Limerick city. The town sits where several country roads meet near the Kerry border, making it a handy stop for those heading to the Dingle Peninsula or exploring the Wild Atlantic Way. Most arrive via the N21 and R523 from Limerick, though the R524 from Listowel and R522 from Abbeyfeale offer pleasant alternatives through the countryside. The town is famous for its annual Coursing Festival each February, where greyhounds chase mechanical hares in a tradition over a century old.
