Anthorn perches on Cumbria's remote Solway Plain, a tiny village where the land meets the Solway Firth. Reach it via the A596 from Carlisle, then the B5307 through Kirkbride - about 25 miles of increasingly rural roads. The massive radio masts of Anthorn Radio Station, which broadcasts Britain's atomic time signal, tower over the flat coastal landscape.
