Annfield Plain is a former County Durham mining village turned small town, sitting on elevated ground where the North Pennines begin their rise. The A693 provides the main route through town, connecting Stanley eastward and Consett westward, whilst the A692 runs north-south linking to the A1 corridor. With approximately 250 fast EV charging points regionally, it's well-served for electric vehicles. The town's most distinctive landmark remains the 1960s Annfield Plain Junior School, whose bold geometric architecture divides local opinion but certainly catches the eye.
