Alston claims the title of England's highest market town, perched at 290 metres in the North Pennines. The A686 from Penrith provides the main access, whilst the A689 and B6277 connect to Hexham and Barnard Castle respectively. With approximately 8 EV charging points available, it's a useful stop when crossing the Pennines. The town is home to England's highest narrow-gauge railway.
