Allihies
Ireland
Ireland
Allihies sits at the far end of the Beara Peninsula, a former copper mining village where the R575 coastal road finally stops. You'll reach it via Kenmare and the R571, then follow the winding R575 west for about 90 minutes from Cork city or an hour from Killarney. The narrow coast road can be tricky with tour buses in summer, and sea mist rolls in quickly off the Atlantic. The village is famous for its brightly painted houses facing the ocean, their blues, yellows, and reds standing out brilliantly against the grey sea and brown moorland behind.
