Aikerness lies on Westray in the northern Orkneys, reached by ferry from Kirkwall then a 16km drive through farming country. The village sits near Westray Airport, which operates the world's shortest scheduled flight to Papa Westray at just two minutes. Local roads connect to Pierowall 4km south for shops and services. The village contains a remarkable Neolithic chambered cairn that folklore attributes to giants working through the night.
