Affetside

Affetside perches on the moorland fringes above Bury, where suburban streets give way to the West Pennines. Reach it via the A56 through Bury or the A676 from Bolton, with the M66 providing motorway access. The elevated setting means proper winter tyres are wise when snow hits the moors. The village name derives from old English for "the side of the hill by the river."
